Gorilla Trekking and Wildebeest Migration Safari – A Journey of a Lifetime with One More Adventure Safaris

If you’ve ever dreamt of locking eyes with a mountain gorilla in the wild and witnessing the thundering hooves of the Great Wildebeest Migration, then combining these two extraordinary African experiences is the ultimate safari bucket-list adventure.

At One More Adventure Safaris, we take pride in turning your dream into a seamless, soul-stirring reality — crafting unforgettable journeys where wildlife, landscapes, and culture come alive before your eyes.

  1. Gorilla Trekking – Into the Heart of the Forest

Where to Go
Mountain gorilla trekking is one of the most intimate wildlife encounters on earth. You can embark on this adventure in:

  • Rwanda – Volcanoes National Park
  • Uganda – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park & Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
  • Congo – Virunga National Park & Kahuzi-Biega National Park (Eastern Lowland Gorillas)

We specialize mainly in Uganda and Rwanda due to their stability, accessibility, and world-class trekking experiences — but can arrange Congo treks for the truly adventurous.

The Experience
Visitors trek through the forest with experienced guides, following gorilla families that have been habituated to human presence. Trekking can take 2–6 hours, depending on where the gorillas are located that day. Once you find them, you’ll spend a magical hour observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat — mothers nurturing their young, playful juveniles swinging in the trees, and the dominant silverback keeping a watchful eye.

Duration:

Gorilla treks can take anywhere from a few hours to a full day, depending on the location of the gorillas.  This also includes the walking time to allocate the gorillas, however an hour is being rewarded to visitors upon finding the gorillas. You will need to be in good shape and prior pre gorilla trekking physical exercise is always advised to keep you in good shape.

Permit Costs

Gorilla trekking requires a permit, which can be expensive, however permit prices do vary in each country

  • Rwanda: $1,500 per person
  • Uganda: $800 per person
  • Congo: $500 per person
Permits are limited and sell out quickly, so we recommend booking at least 3 months in advance.

Extra Primate Adventures
Why stop at gorillas? You can add:

  • Chimpanzee trekking – Kibale Forest (Uganda) or Nyungwe Forest (Rwanda)
  • Golden Monkey trekking – Volcanoes NP (Rwanda) or Mgahinga NP (Uganda)

Getting There
Most gorilla parks can be accessed via Kigali International Airport (Rwanda) or Entebbe International Airport (Uganda). For those short on time, domestic flights are available to reduce travel time.

  1. The Great Wildebeest Migration – Nature’s Grandest Show

Where It Happens
The migration takes place across Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya — a circular journey of over 1.5 million wildebeest alongside zebras, gazelles, and predators.

Other Wildlife:

While the migration is the main draw, these areas also offer opportunities to see other iconic African wildlife, including the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo). Enjoy an incredible game drive moment with our guides, being surrounded with wildlife everywhere in the middle of the park

Best Time to See It
While the migration is year-round, the iconic river crossings usually occur between July and September. Picture thousands of wildebeest plunging into crocodile-infested waters — it’s raw, wild, and unforgettable.

Other Highlights

  • Big Five sightings: lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo
  • Visit the Ngorongoro Crater — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and wildlife paradise
  • Optional hot air balloon safari for a breathtaking aerial view of the migration
